Pancake Pen

The other day I was looking through this little photo gallery thing on the Real Simple website.  It had “new uses for everyday objects.”  There were lots of clever tips. (For example, they suggested using the disposable shower caps given to you by hotels as a sort of condom for your shoes, so as not to get your clothes all shoe-y.)  Another suggestion they made was to use an empty (and rinsed out) ketchup bottle as a neat and tidy way to dispense pancake batter. I thought it was a good idea, but I’m not fond of the re-using of food containers in that way. I think that aversion stems from the trauma of a childhood where I was constantly finding leftover mashed potatoes in butter dishes in the refrigerator. Anyway. Williams-Sonoma has got me covered.  They sell the Pancake Pen.  As far as I can tell, it’s way better than the used ketchup bottle.  It has little measurement notches on the side so you can mix and shake the batter right in the bottle.  You can also use it to “draw” designs and cool things out of pancake batter.  Even awesomer still?  Unlike most other things that can be purchased at Williams-Sonoma, you don’t have to sell your first born to acquire it.  Only $10!  Whoo hoo!

Minimalist Mortal and Pestle

As many of you may (or may not) know, we recently moved back to Indiana after a three year stint on the East Coast. Prior to our move, we sold a BUNCH of stuff in a massive yard sale. One room that I did not get to sort through prior to the sale was the kitchen. So as we were unpacking those boxes, I was pruning down things that I didn’t feel we needed.  I decided that we should get rid of our mortal and pestle… because I’m pretty sure we didn’t use it once in three years.  Joe disagrees… But I think he just likes having it so he can crush up oxy and snort it to have it.  He may get his wish.  This mortar and pestle set from Design Within Reach makes me want to lift my embargo on buying kitchen stuff.

Dark Turquoise Wall Hooks with Vase

Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about my design aesthetic.  It’s kinda of all over the place.  I totally dig the rustic, sorta arts and crafts style, as seen above…  But I’m also totally keen on modern.  I like the minimalist style, but I’m also all about the sorta cluttered, ornate, bohemian vibe.  I like traditional looking pieces, but I’m drawn to the funky.  It’s a confusing juxtaposition sometimes.  I mean.  Is it possible to be TOO eclectic?  This transcends to my taste in music, and really my interests overall.  I feel like I’m always sampling…  and not really sticking with one thing…

And then, as I think about this…  I realise that overall, that’s kind of a theme in my life.  I don’t know who I am.  I don’t know what I want to do with my life, or what kind of person I want to be.  There are so many paths on which I can see myself being completely happy.  I’m left wondering if there will ever be a time where I will feel more grounded.  Will there ever be a time where my tastes are more concrete? Sometimes times I hope so.

Sometimes not.

Smoldering Hues Shower Curtain

For the very first time ever ever…  I have my own bathroom which I do not have to share with ANYBODY.  I mean.  At Dakota Ridge, I had a bathroom that was MOSTLY all mine, but this one is mine to decorate in any girly want that I see fit.  That said, I would LOOOOVE to buy this shower curtain.  It’s so colourful and happy looking.  But while I spend a lot of money on a lot of silly things, I don’t know that I can justify 118 dollars for a shower curtain.  However.  I’m open to arguements as to why I SHOULD.  ;)

The equivalent of 1,400 regular sized gummy bears and weighing in at a whopping five pounds…  This GIANT gummy bear comes in eight different colours and flavors (including the AWESOME pineapple gummy).

And he ONLY has 12,600 calories.  Sigh.  This is why you’re fat…

Knotty Necklace

I found this while browsing and Anthropologie.  I thought it was cute and decided that I would post it here.  I saved the link, and then when I went back a couple days later, I noticed there was a review.  The review was not a completely positive one, stating that this necklace was MUCH larger than the picture indicated…  The chick posted a photograph.

Omg.  To be fair, some other people posted photos later, and it didn’t look quite so disproportionate.  I figure this chick must be extra tiny, and thusly not capable of wearing such a necklace.  Nonetheless, I still dig it.

I have a certain affinity for every day, household items that are shaped like large fruits and vegetables.  That’s all there is to say about that.
